Our Core Functions & Responsibilities

The Office of the Auditor General (OAG) performs several critical functions to ensure the proper management of public resources in Solomon Islands. Our work is guided by international standards and mandated by the Constitution.

Financial Audit

We conduct annual audits of the financial statements of the Solomon Islands Government, including all ministries and departments. This ensures that public accounts are accurate and prepared in accordance with the law.

Compliance Audit

We evaluate whether government transactions and activities comply with the laws, regulations, and authorities that govern them. This promotes adherence to the legal framework of public financial management.

Performance Audit

Also known as Value-for-Money audits, these examinations assess whether government programs and activities are being carried out with due regard to economy, efficiency, and effectiveness.

Provincial Government Audit

The OAG is responsible for auditing the accounts of all nine Provincial Governments and the Honiara City Council, ensuring accountability at the local government level.

Statutory Bodies Audit

We provide oversight for various statutory corporations and state-owned enterprises, auditing their financial performance and reporting on their stewardship of public assets.

Special Investigations

Upon request or based on risk assessment, we conduct special audits and investigations into specific areas of public administration where there are concerns about mismanagement or irregularities.

Constitutional Mandate

All functions of the Office of the Auditor General are carried out under the authority of Section 108 of the Constitution of Solomon Islands and the Public Finance Management Act. We are committed to providing independent assurance to the Parliament and the people of Solomon Islands.
