Auditor General Addresses Pacific Islands Forum on Climate Finance Accountability
By Office of the Auditor General
The Auditor General of the Solomon Islands delivered a keynote address at the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting on November 18, 2025, focusing on the accountability of climate finance in the Pacific region.
The address highlighted several key themes:
- The growing volume of climate finance flowing into Pacific Island nations and the corresponding need for robust accountability frameworks
- Challenges faced by small island developing states in tracking and reporting on climate-related expenditure
- The role of supreme audit institutions in providing independent assurance on the use of climate funds
- Recommendations for strengthening regional cooperation on climate finance auditing
The Auditor General called on development partners to ensure that climate finance mechanisms include provisions for independent external audit and that Pacific SAIs are adequately resourced to fulfill this critical oversight function.
The speech was well received by forum leaders and development partners, with several expressing interest in collaborative audit approaches to climate finance across the region.
